Plenty Of Work Ahead For Council

PRINCE GEORGE – November 5th is when the new Councillors will find their official seats around Council Chambers, and the real work will get underway. And there is no shortage of issues to contend with.

“Implementation of the employer health tax will mean extra cost downloaded from the provincial government,” says Councillor-Elect Garth Frizzell. “We’re going to see the implementation of the new tax rules for Councillors, starting in January 2019. The tax exemption that’s been with us since 1946 has been eliminated so the amount of take-home pay goes down.”

And then there is the issue of cannabis revenue-sharing.

“That excise tax has already gone into effect federally. The federal government has already said take half of our 50 percent and direct it to municipalities. But we haven’t heard yet from the provincial government in BC. In Ontario, they know and in other provinces across Canada, they know, but no word yet in BC.”
