Amateur Filmmaker Challenges Definition Of ‘Artist’
PRINCE GEORGE- When you think of artists you probably think of painters, sculptors, or carvers. A local man is hoping to change the publics perspective with his first short film. He says there are a large number of locals he considers artists that some may not: tradespeople. Ben Gibson thought of the idea after seeing a call for submissions to an online video contest. The catch? It had to be about an artist that inspired him. He chose his dad: a retired welder. “I have a couple of friends who are great artists but it was no question that my dad was always an artist,” said Gibson, “in his mind, he’s not much of an artist, but he is always creating.” He entered ‘A Series of Thoughts’, it follows his father around his shop as he discusses his craft. Win or lose, he says he wanted to show others that tradespeople can be artists. To watch the film click here.
