Electoral Reform Debate In Dead Heat

PRINCE GEORGE – Electoral reform is the political hot topic these days. It is also the focus of an omni-poll presented by Mainstreet Research. It shows that 50.5% of respondents will vote to keep the existing first past the post system, while 49.5% will go with proportional representation.

“Well, it’s a tight race and this is an important decision that people have to make,” says Bobby Deepak, who is in favour of proportional representation. “People are really taking it seriously.” He says he has yet to cast his ballot, saying he wants to make an informed decision.

Prince George-Valemount MLA, Shirley Bond, says she hopes that’s the case.

“I’m hoping that those close numbers indicate people are engaged, that they’re doing their homework and making a really well-informed decision.”
