Climbing The Cutbanks For Cancer

PRINCE GEORGE – The Climb for Cancer, sponsored by Carrier Lumber is a one-day event in April where Prince George residents run up the cutbanks to raise money for the Kordyban lodge.

To this day the Lodge has been a warm home to more than 37 hundred guests in the North who are receiving cancer treatment.

Many Prince George residents know climbing the cutbanks isn’t a walk in the park, now imagine doing it in heels. Erin Simpson did exactly that. Her team was called “Heelin’ for Cancer” made of up friends and family supporting Erin’s fight through breast cancer.

Erin is now cancer-free and continues to hike the cutbanks with her family. She says the hill may look intimidating from the bottom but it’s all about putting one foot in front of the other.

“It’s local first of all and… it’s just keeping the money local and for such an amazing cause. If anyone has ever been to the Kordyban Lodge and sees what they do there, it’s a very special place for a lot of people. It’s just so needed in this community.”

A plaque was presented to the organizers of the Climb for Cancer and Northern Lights Estate Winery Thursday morning at the Lodge. Since the Climb was started in 2016, the event has raised $107 thousand for Kordyban.

“It allows the Canadien Cancer Society to continue to provide a home away from home for those who are going through cancer treatment at the BC Cancer agency. So it continues to inspire us, that home away from home means so much it’s a lot of support and these people need it,” says Sandra Blackwell the Annual Giving Coordinator at the Canadien Cancer Society.

Erin will get her heels dirty again at the 4th annual Climb for Cancer, which will take place Saturday, April 27 2019.
