Christmas Tree Recycling This Weekend
PRINCE GEORGE – ‘Tis the season to undecorate, and as Christmas comes down, so do trees everywhere. This year the Job’s Daughters have an alternative to throwing your natural tree out. This weekend from 10am to 4 pm at the CN Centre parking lot they will be gathering trees.
The Job’s Daughters are taking over for the Lions club, which for years held the event. The leadership group of women aged 10 to 20 were happy to help out. It doesn’t cost anything to drop your tree, but the group will accept donations.
The trees will in turn be chipped on site by city staff on Monday and once the snow melts the mulch will be used in city gardens and around trees to help regulate soil temperatures and suppress weed growth.
“All the debris, all the wood chips from all the Christmas trees will be stockpiled until the spring and then we will utilize it in our flower beds and tree wells,” says Larry Ward, Supervisor Parks and Solid Waste for the City of Prince George.
