Avalanche Risks in BC Mountains
PRINCE GEORGE – A warning to back country enthusiasts from avalanche experts. The weather pattern is creating a high chance of snow slides in area mountains, including the Cariboo range right next door to Prince George. Local experts say a little bit of education can go a long way to staying safe.
Avalanche Canada is warning of extreme danger in the mountains of B-C’s south coast, the Sea to Sky region and Alberta’s Jasper National Park.
While its better to be safe than sorry before heading out to the backcountry mountains, education is important.
“Folks that get out and play all winter every winter, just don’t know that they’ve been lucky to date, and that an avalanche could happen and they didn’t know what to look for or what to expect. With a bit of training you get a sense of how to understand the snowpack better,” says Lauren Phillips of OVERhang Education Centre
