Conference Centre Expanding?
PRINCE GEORGE – The Natural Resources forum wrapped up at the Conference and Civic Centre last week. At 1,100 delegates, it is now the largest of its kind in North America. It brings big dollars to the community.
“So we know that the Prince George Conference and Civic Centre brings in over 8,000 non-local delegates and exhibitors per year, which results in over 18,000 hotel room nights and that adds up, with all kinds of spending, to over $6.9 million of direct spending as a result of events that take place in that facility,” explains Melissa Barcellos, Manager of Economic Development.
But, at 1,100 delegates, the Civic Centre is at its maximum capacity. That’s why the City has brought in a consultant to pull together a feasibility study for the possible renovation and expansion of the Conference and Civic Centre.
“We have tried for many, many years to attract larger conventions to Prince George and we’ve always been told ‘Look, your convention space doesn’t meet our requirements.’,” says Mayor Lyn Hall.
