Early Alzheimer’s artist exhibits work
PRINCE GEORGE — One Prince George resident is holding an art exhibit to get his work into the public eye before his Alzheimer’s gets worse.
John Wemyss started when his second wife bought him painting lessons for their first Christmas about seven years ago and he has been painting ever since. He is dealing with an early onset of Alzheimer’s and approaching 90-years-old, however, despite forgetting things here and there, his painting seems to keep getting better.
His favourite medium is watercolours. It’s one he picked up right away, allowing him to paint landscapes and scenery with his unique style.
Paintings are on sale for $90 each, chosen because of his age. All proceeds will be going towards a cause near to John’s heart, the Hospice. His first wife used the service before passing away and John continues to be an advocate.
