World Autism Awareness Day holds special significance for many

PRINCE GEORGE – World Autism Awareness Day was created 12 years ago with the goal of educating people about autism while simultaneously ending the stigma surrounding it. Since then the entire month of April has become dedicated to raising awareness about the condition.

For families of children with autism, it can be a challenging, yet enriching process.

Janice Oliver’s daughter Eden was diagnosed when she was two. An early diagnosis can mean more success in the child’s future.

For Janice, the road ahead will be challenging but taking it day by day and using the available resources at places like the Pacific Autism Family Network will make the journey easier.

One of the main goals World autism awareness day is to bring people who have children with autism together to share and elaborate on their experiences to let other families know they aren’t alone.

Autism BC in combination with Pacific Autism Family Network and Northern Interior Autism Society will be hosting the 8th annual Prince George Autism Awareness walk on May 4th, in an effort to continue building on the awareness generated during the month of April.
