PRINCE GEORGE – Tucked in the corner of the Visitor Information Centre on First Avenue is a display and an interactive computer, courtesy of BC Parks, for tourists who want to visit any one of the provincial parks in Northern BC. It allows visitors to search for specifics around certain parks, such as their amenities. It also provides an opportunity to showcase under-utilized parks. And there are a lot of parks to see in BC.

“BC Parks is the third largest park network in North America, following the Canadian and American national parks,” explains Natasha Ewing, Community Liaison Officer for the Northern Region. “Fourteen percent of our province is protected for its conservation, recreation and cultural significance.”

The purpose of the display is to help educate visitors and locals about the 343 parks, or 58% of the province’s protected areas located throughout Northern BC. These parks alone host almost two million visitors annually.
