UPDATE: Highway collision claims a life on Highway 16 near Purden

PRINCE GEORGE —Update: RCMP confirm an adult male driver is dead after a collision 40 kilometres east of Prince George. Just after 10 a.m. today (May 24), emergency services including frontline officers from the Prince George RCMP and the North District RCMP responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 16 near Purden Lake.

The collision involved a tractor-trailer unit and a vehicle. The BC Coroner Service and an RCMP Collision Reconstructionist has since been called to the scene. The investigation is in its early stages and the highway is expected to be closed for several hours while officers continue to investigate.

More details may be released at a later time.

Earlier: Mounties have told CKPG Today that today’s crash – a two-vehicle accident involving an SUV and a semi -has claimed a life.

The highway remains closed at this hour. No word yet on when it may reopen.

Earlier: Motorists beware, a traffic accident has closed Highway 16 near Purden Lake.

It happened this morning, and Prince George RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass says police are currently on scene.

“The highway is expected to be closed for a period of time while emergency crews tend to those involved.”

He says more information will be released as it becomes known.
