BRITISH COLUMBIA–Starting at noon on May 30th, category 2 open burns will be prohibited throughout the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction.

The BC Wildfire Service announced the prohibition Tuesday saying this will help reduce wildfire risk and protect the public.

The prohibition specifically applies to:

  • the burning of any material smaller than two metres high and three metres wide
  • the use of fireworks, firecrackers, sky lanterns
  • the burning stubble or grass over an area less than 2,000 square metres
