Curbside garbage, meet the future: City uses radio frequency tags on garbage bins

PRINCE GEORGE–Modern technology is about to change the game when it comes to your weekly curbside garbage pick up.

Earlier this week the city began installing radio frequency tags to curbside garbage bins throughout the community.

The city says the new technology will help increase collection route efficiency by helping staff pre-plan through routes more efficiently, ensuring no garbage cart is missed on collection day–and if, a signal will be sent to staff indicating a cart was missed.

It will also help rake out the households that are improperly disposing of waste–ie. recycling in garbage, by using the existing camera system aboard each garbage truck.
