PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George School District has announced a pair of public information sessions next week regarding recommended catchment changes for Edgewood and Spruceland Traditional Elementary schools.

The district’s Education Services Committee has recommended moving students from Edgewood and Spruceland to D.P. Todd instead of Duchess Park Secondary once they finish grade 7 starting in September 2020.

The proposed changes are to address capacity issues at Duchess Park. The school’s current population is 1,075 students and its capacity is 900 students.

Renovation of D.P. Todd is on the district’s five-year capital plan and with a possible expansion/renovation the district hopes to incorporate an additional 300 seats.

The information sessions will run from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Edgewood and Wednesday at Spruceland.

School trustees will be on hand to discuss the issue. A final decision on the proposed change is expected this fall.
