PRINCE GEORGE — It’s looking like this Canada Day long weekend will be a wet one for the Prince George area.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Bobby Sekhon says it will start with showers and thunderstorms today with the possibility of hail and heavy downpours.

“Tomorrow (June 29) things improve slightly but still we have a 60 per cent chance of showers or thunderstorms.”

He says Sunday is looking like the best day of the bunch with sunny skies and a high of 24 until another system moves in Sunday night into Monday (Canada Day).

Sekhon expects things to clear up by the time we all head back to work Tuesday with clear skies and above average temperatures.

However he says the rain is a bit of a silver lining considering how dry it’s been.

“Absolutely. It’s been quite dry. Up to Wednesday (June 26) we had only 39 per cent of the normal precipitation for this month so this is pretty welcome in terms of getting moisture back into the environment.”
