PRINCE GEORGE–It’s the story of a lost micro SD card that even after two years of being lost in the forest, rained on, snowed on, and trampled over still managed to stay intact and made it back to its rightful owner.

Ben Gibson was on a hike in Monkman Provincial Park in June with his friends when he stumbled across the, as big as your fingernail, memory card. “I don’t know why, but I always grew up just looking at the ground when I’m walking, I find four leaf clovers all the time…and I looked at my feet and there was a small, little black square mixed in with the round pebbles and the rocks, and it just didn’t fit in,” said Gibson.

He picked it up and took it home, expecting the card to not work when he tried plugging it into his computer. To his surprise…it did! Through looking at the photos Gibson soon discovered the SD card had been lost since 2017.

“My first thought was social media,”said Gibson. He took one of the photos and posted it straight to Facebook, and overnight it got 188 shares and the owner was found, Alberta resident Jody Reay.

Jody was extatic to hear the good news, “It was a miracle, I could not believe it,” she said to us over Skype. Reay had taken to the hiking trails in Tumbler Ridge, after getting out of an 18-year-long mentally and physically abusive relationship. She says the hikes taught her about her own inner strength. Reay had even made peace with the fact she had lost her pictures and most likely wasn’t getting them back.

“For that chip to stay the way that it is…I am just so excited, I can’t wait to see those pictures.”–Jody Reay

The micro SD card should be making its way into Reay’s hands later this week.
