PRINCE GEORGE– The Prince George Spruce Kings made a big announcement Friday, July 19.

Head Coach Adam Maglio has accepted a job with the Western Hockey League’s Spokane Chiefs as an Associate Coach. Maglio has been with the Kings for four seasons, including the last two historic playoff runs.

The Nelson-born coach led the Kings to back-to-back BCHL Finals, winning the Fred Page Cup in 2019. They’d go on to win the Doyle Cup, before the season ended in a loss in the National Championship game.

GM Mike Hawes says he is happy to see Maglio get a step “closer to his goal as a hockey coach.”

“He is one of the best young progressive coaches in the game and I’m not surprised that he was sought after by many teams. We will miss him and he will be hard to replace but at the same time we are extremely excited for him and wish him nothing but the best in Spokane.”– Mike Hawes, Spruce Kings General Manager

Associate Coach Alex Evin has been promoted to Head Coach, effective immediately. This is Evin’s second Head Coaching role, afer a season with Selkirk College of the BC Intercollegiate Hockey League.

He is also a 5-year BCHL playing veteran, having won the Top Goaltender Award and the Fred Page Cup in 2007-2008 with the Penticton Vees.
