Prince George ESS Centre activated for wildfire evacuees from 70 Mile House

PRINCE GEORGE — The City of Prince George has activated its Emergency Social Services (ESS) Reception Centre to support residents displaced by the Pear Lake wildfire in the Thompson-Nicola Regional District.
According to the City, evacuees from the 70 Mile House area are expected to begin arriving in Prince George on Monday afternoon after an evacuation order was issued because of the wildfire threat.
The ESS Reception Centre is located at 4248 18 Avenue, between the horse paddocks and the Ice Oval. The centre opened at 2 p.m. Monday and will remain open until 9 p.m. City officials say the facility will continue operating daily for as long as support is needed. Any changes to operating hours will be posted through the City of Prince George’s website and social media channels.
Emergency Social Services provides short-term assistance to people forced from their homes by disasters and emergencies. Services can include information and referrals, temporary accommodations through hotel vouchers, and meal vouchers for evacuees requiring immediate support. The program is funded by the Province of British Columbia and administered by local governments and Indigenous communities.
