Canadian Taxpayers Federation responds to ethics report
OTTAWA–The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) has released a statement in response to the report released by Canada’s ethics watchdog.
Aaron Wudrick CTF Federal Director says that “Commissioner Dion’s finding that the prime minister has again violated the Conflict of Interest Act should alarm all Canadians concerned about ethical behaviour in government.” He goes on to mention, “in order to avoid a repeat of this scandal and strengthen accountability in the future, the CTF is calling on all party leaders to commit to two policy reforms in advance of the coming election: separating the roles of the minister of justice and the attorney general; and ending the use of ‘trojan-horse’ omnibus legislation to implement laws without proper scrutiny and debate.”
The report released by Ethics Commissioner Mario Dion says that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau improperly pressured the former attorney general, Jody Wilson-Raybould to halt the criminal prosecution of SNC Lavalin.
