Students benefitted from the 5th Annual Back to School Celebration at the Native Friendship Centre. They were given backpacks and school supplies for the upcoming school year.

The mayor of Fort St. James declared a state of local financial crisis around a month ago after a saw mill sold and closed in June, leaving just over 200 people unemployed.The move was made in hopes to create job opportunity programs by the federal and provincial governments to prevent workers from leaving the community.

What have been the trickle-down effects of a struggling forestry industry?

Businesses have been affected by the recent sting of mill closures and curtailments and Northern Development Initiative Trust has put in a new incentive for secondary and tertiary businesses. Consulting rebates for small and medium sized businesses are available of up to 75 percent to a max of $15,000. The rebates are in place to try and help businesses affected by the current state of the industry stay afloat.

Businesses are re-evaluating their security measures after 17 break and enters over the span of a week in Prince George. One local business says he thinks he hasn’t been targeted for the security measures he has taken.

Two men and two youth arrested for armed robbery

Two adult males, one male youth and female youth were arrested early Wednesday morning in connection to an armed robbery at a gas station on 5th and Tabor Blvd. The suspects demanded cash and cigarettes before assaulting the lone employee and getting away on foot.
