TERRACE — The provincial government has announced free driver training for Indigenous peoples in northern B.C.

The Province says more than 1,000 people will benefit in Indigenous communities in B.C.’s North Coast and Nechako regions.

The government is partnering with Terrace-based All Nations Driving Academy (ANDA) to deliver the training which the Province says will help people travel to work, visit family, access health care and participate in B.C.’s economy.

The Province says it is investing $360,000 in courses and services for people to secure their Class 7 learner and novice driver’s licences.

Victoria notes that access to safe transportation has been identified as a critical issue for women in the North, including in the report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.

The provincial government says over the next decade, close to 13,000 job openings are expected in the North Coast and Nechako regions.
