PRINCE GEORGE — Prince George city councillor Kyle Sampson has officially announced his candidacy for mayor, launching a campaign focused on leadership, public safety, economic opportunity and improving city services.

In a campaign announcement, Sampson said his decision to run comes after eight years serving on city council, where he has worked alongside community leaders and advocated for projects aimed at moving Prince George forward.

“Prince George deserves leadership that’s ready for what’s next,” Sampson said. “That’s why I’m running for mayor.”

Sampson described the city as being at a pivotal point in its history, facing significant challenges while also having major opportunities for growth. He said he does not believe Prince George is a city in decline, but one that requires experienced and decisive leadership to bring people together and guide it through the years ahead.

“I don’t believe our city is broken,” Sampson said. “I believe we need experienced, decisive leadership that can bring people together, make thoughtful decisions, and ensure we seize this moment.”

The councillor said his campaign will focus on creating opportunity, strengthening public safety, investing in families and neighbourhoods, and delivering a City Hall that works more effectively for residents. Additional details about his platform are expected to be released in the coming weeks.

Sampson said his decision to seek the mayor’s office is rooted in his belief in the community and its future.

“I’m running because I believe in Prince George, and I believe our best days are still ahead,” he said.

Residents interested in learning more about the campaign can visit Sampson’s campaign website, where information about his platform and volunteer opportunities is available.

Sampson is also inviting supporters to attend his campaign kickoff event, scheduled for Aug. 13 at Studio 2880.

The announcement adds another name to the race for mayor as Prince George prepares for the 2026 municipal election. The other declared candidate for mayor is Roy Stewart.
