Another issue plagues Mackenzie

More trouble for Mackenzie, as BC Hydro has applied to drop the water levels below the permitted level of 21-50. The drop would mean the city would be discharging its effluent (liquid waste or sewage) into a creek, not a lake, causing issues with permits.The drop in water levels could also impact the pulpmill.

Rally to change justice system’s “revolving doors”

Local resident Sean Greco organized a rally outside the courthouse on Wednesday morning in an attempt to bring attention and hopefully change the way the justice system handles repeat offenders. Greco says that depending on the crime, rehabilitation should be offered to criminals so they don’t commit an offense, get caught, and get released into the community only to do it again.

Comedy club to hold fundraiser to help PG Humane Society

After the Humane Society announced its campaign to raise money to help keep its doors open, Sonar Comedy and Nightclub decided to step in and help by hosting a comedy night to try and raise money for the non-profit. The event will take place September 19th at 7 PM.

Recent stats show a shift in industry

According to the City’s statistic report 2,400 jobs were created in the forestry, oil and gas sectors. With the recent and continuing loss in jobs in the forestry sector, it is believed the jobs come from a healthy oil and gas sector.

Northern Fancon organizer launches 100K crowdfunding campaign

A crowdfunding campaign has been launched to keep fancon afloat. UNLTD Media and Events will be taking over from the Prince George Citizen and is aiming to raise $100,000 in 30 days, starting Friday. The $100,000 goal must be met in order for the public to find out who next year’s special guests are.
