Candidates discuss climate change, post-secondary education at UNBC forum

Climate change and post-secondary education were issues that were front and centre at Wednesday night’s all-candidates forum at UNBC. Candidates from both ridings took turns discussing how they would address a variety of issues.

Man found dead after physical altercation, RCMP ask for witnesses

A man is dead after a street fight that took place last week on Friday. RCMP say a man was seriously injured and rushed to hospital where he left on his own accord, before receiving medical attention. The man was found dead in his home the following day. RCMP are asking witnesses to the fight to come forward.

Heaviest cannabis users consumed two-thirds of cannabis in Canada: UNBC study

A UNBC Professor has found that the upper ten percent of the heaviest-using cannabis individuals are responsible for consuming around two-thirds of all cannabis used in Canada in 2018. The study also showed that males consumed more cannabis by volume than females.

City improving health and safety in downtown

Talktober brought up a lot of issues and one of them was the safety of the downtown. The City says they have led and partnered with other associations in order to improve the safety downtown. The City’s latest pilot projects aim at making washrooms and storage available to the vulnerable and homeless living in the area.

Volunteers needed to serve and chat

The Fire Pit will host its 13th Annual Thanksgiving meal for the vulnerable in our community on Friday, Oct 11th at noon. Organizers are asking for the public’s help for volunteers to help serve meals to the public.
