Stolen puppy reunited with owner after 6 weeks

PRINCE GEORGE–Heidi Ammundsen was holding out hope of finding her three-month-old stolen puppy which had been taken from a local Save-On-Foods in September.

“It’s been six weeks since he was taken and I’d been…always kind of hoping…but all the leads we’d found turned out to be dead ends,” Ammundsen told us on an over the phone interview. Ammundsen had Fenley stolen from her when she dropped by the Hart Save-On-Foods for a quick stop and left him tied outside the store.

“Is he still going to remember me if I do find him?” she asked herself.

Ammundsen received a call from a stranger Thursday afternoon, telling her that they thought they had her dog, Fenley. The good samaritan proceeded to send Ammundsen a photo of the dog “it looked an awful lot like Fenley…just a whole lot bigger now,” she continued. According to the stranger, her neighbours in Salmon Valley had bought the dog off of someone, not realizing it was stolen. The neighbours decided to move and were unable to care for the dog anymore, so offered it up to their neighbour (the good samaritan) who recognized the dog.

Ammundsen says Fenley has been too excited to see her to let her take a non-shaky photo of them together. Photo Courtesy of Heidi Ammundsen.

The two were reunited yesterday afternoon. She says she is grateful for the return of her dog, and thanks to everyone who helped reunite them.

“He still remembered me…even after six weeks,” said Ammundsen.

“I was very tempted to call in sick today so I could stay home with him,” she said with a laugh. Ammundsen says she has “nothing nice” to say to those that stole her puppy “I don’t see how they could have not known that I was looking for my dog.”

She says she’s learnt her lesson, “he is never, ever, ever getting left anywhere, by himself, ever again. “To all the dog owners out there, learn from my mistake and don’t be naive and trust the world to be a decent place. Never ever, ever turn your back on your pets.”
