The Provincial Government has come out and commented on the purchase of Conifex Timber by Hampton Lumber in Fort St.James.

Ravi Kahlon, Parliamentary Secretary for Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development stated the purchase is part of the government’s approach to ensure B.C residents benefit from the public resources which they own.

The approval came after Hampton committed to build a new mill in Fort St. James, to be operational within 36 months.

Another major part of the deal is they will be looking for locals to fill positions at the mill and local contractors to construct it.
