PRINCE GEORGE—On Tuesday, NDP Labour Critic Matthew Green (Hamilton Centre) travelled to northwest B.C. engaging with local labour leaders and touring with major employers.

Meeting with Skeena-Bulkley Valley NDP MP Taylor Bachrach, Green spoke with unions in Prince Rupert. There they discussed topics ranging from the new federal dental care program to anti-scab legislation that is currently moving through Parliament.
“The NDP is poised to deliver some of the biggest gains for working Canadians in a decade,”said Bachrach. “The Conservatives continue to stand in the way of progress but we are pushing forward.”

Green was appointed as the NDP’s labour critic last month and is currently touring across the country to learn directly from workers and labour leaders.

“Our goal is nothing less than improving the material conditions of working Canadians who are being left behind,” said Green. “We’re living at a time when many are struggling while the biggest corporations are taking in record profits. That means we need to push back harder than ever to ensure basic fairness.”

On Wednesday, Green and Bachrach toured the LNG Canada project with representatives from the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) and the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA). This was followed by a tour of Rio Tinto’s Kitimat smelter and Tamatik Status of Women’s new housing and daycare project.

“It’s helpful to understand the dynamics and opportunities in Northwest BC, said Green. “I lookforward to continuing to support Taylor’s hard work as a champion for the people Skeena- Bulkley Valley.”
