City in Crisis: The downtown

PRINCE GEORGE – “He’s gonna talk to them and get them to start moving before the other business owners come to work.”

That’s Cst Trevor Hurley describing the events every morning in the downtown, when legions of police officers tour the downtown, cleaning things up before the businesses open their doors.

Mayor Lyn Hall chats with CKPG Today during a ride-a-long through the downtown. He says there were great strides in downtown revitalization with businesses opening and a nightlife becoming a draw. Until a certain point.

“And we saw that certain point in 2017,” says Mayor Lyn Hall. “And I’m not certainly going to blame it on 2017 wildfires and a portion of the evacuees staying here. But we know that we had a number of evacuees who perhaps homeless in another community and were evacuated to Prince George. And they’ve stayed here.”
