Council approves new plan
PRINCE GEORGE – Council has approved a new five-year economic development plan for the City and it breaks from the traditional plan. In the past, the City sought to attract new businesses to the community and develop ways to retain them. This plan identifies five “cluster” industries which will, in turn, help the City to identify gaps that will be filled by new businesses.
According to the City, 70% of new business comes to be from an existing business. The five “clusters” are forestry, construction, manufacturing, construction and professional services.
The new plan will resurrect the Start Up Prince George program. It was identified in a survey of local industry to be highly productive.
Finally, something new with this plan is building on the “brain gain.”
