VANDERHOOF — Mounties in Vanderhoof are seeking witnesses to an assault this week.

RCMP say it occurred mid-day on a popular walking trail on Monday (Dec.2) and note the victim was just 17-years-old.

“She was walking on WL McLeod Wetland near the WL McLeod Elementary School and the Nechako Valley Secondary School when she was pushed from behind by an unknown man and assaulted. She suffered minor physical injuries as a result,” says S/Sgt. Janelle Shoihet with the BC RCMP.

Though officers quickly flooded the area, a suspect has not yet been identified.

Police describe the assailant as male with with short brown hair, wearing dark jeans and a black and red jacket.

RCMP note that stranger assaults are “very unusual” in Vanderhoof and are making this a “priority investigation.”

“We are asking anyone who may have been in the area of the WL McLeod Wetland on Monday after noon and before 4 p.m. and saw anyone matching the description of the suspect to please call us,” says Shoihet.

If you have any information you are asked to call the Vanderhoof RCMP at (250)567-2222.
