PRINCE GEORGE — A sombre memorial at the College of New Caledonia this afternoon marked the 30 year anniversary of the Montreal Massacre which claimed the lives of 14 women at L’ecole Polytechnique.

This senseless act of violence shook out country and led Ottawa to designate December 6 as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.

Organizers of today’s event reminded everyone there’s still a lot of work to do as violence continues to be a daily reality for many women and girls in Canada.

“We need to consider the impact that violence against women has in our community, and take action on what we can all do to prevent further gender-based violence,” said Sarah Boyd, Executive Director of the Northern Women’s Centre.
