Winter Driving

Winter driving ahead

PRINCE GEORGE – Environment Canada has issued a heavy snowfall warning and it is now the time of year to adjust their driving habits accordingly.

Chris Schulz with the Driving for Life Academy identifies the biggest mistakes make when they get behind the wheel after a snowfall.

“People not giving themselves enough time to stop when they’re rolling up to a shaded area or a four-way stop, someplace that’s icy. Not giving themselves enough space when they’re stopping.”

He says most vehicles now have the technologies to help you stay safe on the road, except under one condition.

“You can do everything right but you’re only as good as your traction. So if you don’t winter tires on or you’re still driving with all-seasons, you can do everything that you’re supposed to do but you’re probably not going to get the result that you want.”

And he adds “pumping the brakes is outdated.”

But the bottom line is winter is that season where drivers must keep their wits about them when behind the wheel.
