Plastics plant making progress

PRINCE GEORGE – “So it’s the plant that actually straddles the pipeline. So we can anywhere along the pipeline and, as we thought about future developments, we thought ‘Let’s get closer to where the other future LNG lines are going to be.”

That’s Ken James, the President and CEO of West Coast Olefins describing the recovery plant project north of the city, in which it has entered into an agreement with the McLeod Lake Indian Band. That agreement could lead to an equity ownership agreement between West Coast Olefins and the Band.

However, he says it does not replace the plant that is slated to be built in the BCR Industrial site south of town. That project is still before the BC Environmental Assessment Board. However, in the meantime,

James says there is work to be done yet to address the concerns from many fronts: those who oppose the location, the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation who recently came out saying it has not provided support the project and those who oppose a plastics plant by its very nature.
