Funding released in ‘Fort St. James Bucks’ for those impacted by downturn in forestry sector

FORT ST. JAMES– The District of Fort St. James will begin releasing funding to community members impacted by the 2019 downturn in the forestry sector later this month.

The BC Government’s Community Support Grant Program provided $875,000 in short-term funding to support 11 Interior BC communities impacted by mill closures or shift reductions. Fort St. James was eligible for $75,000 which will begin to be distributed on March 16 in “Fort St. James Bucks,” promoting local purchasing and supporting local businesses.

$250 will be provided per applicant.

Fort St. James Bucks provided through this program may be worth $2 for every $1 spent on certain services at participating businesses. In a release by the District of Fort St. James, the district says that the “Bucks” will ensure that the funding circulates in Fort St. James and supports local business owners, entrepreneurs and impacted forest workers.
