PRINCE GEORGE — Plenty of organizations are doing what they can to help those needing support through the COVID-19 pandemic. One of those is the Carrier Sekani Tribal Council who is expanding one of their programs to help more families in need by reaching both Indigenous and non-Indigenous families.

“There are a lot of people that are single parents, elders, and people that can’t go shopping with things like health problems,” explained Alberta Alec, Project Lead. “We’re just trying to do our part and try to help as much as we can.”

The CSTC is building up hampers to deliver early next week. There are 100 hampers filled with essentials to help those in need such as non-perishable food items, toiletries, and more. When they are being delivered next week, other foods like meat and produce will be added.

“For delivering, what we are going to do is bring the baskets to their doorsteps but we won’t interact and talk. We’ll say [ahead of time] that we are coming over and going to leave it on their doorstep,” Alec said.
