ban on assault weapons

OTTAWA—Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the ban of over 1,500 styles and models of assault weapons across the country.

Trudeau used the latest act of gun violence that stole the lives of 22 Canadians in Nova Scotia to express just how devastating these weapons can be in the wrong hands.

“These weapons were designed for one purpose and one purpose only. To kill a large amount of people in the shortest amount of time.”—Justin Trudeau

The Prime Minister went on to say that “Canadians deserve more than thoughts and prayers,” and that this ban is a step in keeping Canadians safe from gun violence.

Trudeau levelled with Canadians who use firearms responsibly, and legally, those who use them to hunt, or for work and explained that no military grade assault rifle is necessary for that kind of work.

“You dont need an AR-15 to take down a deer.”—Justin Trudeau

Effective immediately Canadians will no longer be able to use, buy, trade, sell, transport or import assault style firearms.

A two year amnesty period will be given to protect responsible gun owners from criminal liability.

“We know there is much more to do.” —Bill Blair, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness

Minister Blair highlighted that there is much more to do, but are determined to protect the lives of Canadians.
