Moberg hoping to improve offensive output in final year of Junior hockey

Whether it was his blistering shot from the blue line or hopping in the rush, it was a strong season for North Vancouver’s Cole Moberg with the Cats where he registered another 13 goals and 24 assists.

“Personally, it went pretty well,” shared Moberg to CKPG.

“Sat out a bit at the beginning of the season, obviously with an injury missing 4 games it is hard to get back into it, but I thought in the 2nd half I felt like I came around and started to play really well.”

But the blueliner is hoping to add to that next season, which will be his final with the Cougars. However, training during the Covid-19 pandemic hasn’t been easy, but Moberg has found ways to adapt.

“At the start, I was just working out at the house doing whatever I could with what I had here. The last couple of weeks the gym has been open so I have been able to work out 4 times a week and get working in there and get some proper lifting and condition. I’ve also been rollerblading in the lower mainland when the weather’s nice, so it’s been nice.”

Moberg is hoping to get stronger and faster as he wants to be even harder to play against.

During the Cougars Town Hall which they held last month, Head Coach and General Manager Mark Lamb highlighted Moberg as a potential candidate to be the teams leading scorer next year, and Moberg feels he can potentially meet that expectation.

“I’ve been up there for the past couple of years and I think I can be the top scorer. It’s harder as a D-man because you’re not down low or in front of the net all the time so it’s hard to get the goals sometimes. But being able to move the puck, as a puck-moving defenceman like I consider myself, you can still get points with assists by getting the puck to forwards and stuff, but I feel it is very true what he said and I feel I can be at the top of our team in points,” explained Moberg.

The 2020-2021 campaign will be Moberg’s 4th and final season with the Cougars and he’s hoping that it is the best one yet both offensively and from a team perspective.
