PRINCE GEORGE — Norm Coyne has been chosen as one of a hundred across Canada to earn a spot with the Netflix-Banff Diversity of Voices fellowship. It supports emerging content creators who are Indigenous, Non-Binary, Francophone, and Female, helping to connect them with high-level executives from all over the world.

A lot of where Coyne films is right here in Prince George. With that, an opportunity to show off what the city has to offer moving forward. Coyne considers Prince George an ideal location to have filmmakers come to, especially in the short term, because it will be easier to get a COVID-conscious set up in a more spread out space like PG rather than larger centres. He said, “This opportunity is going to level us up.”

Once upon a time, the City had its own Film Commissioner back when bigger companies were coming more frequently. Now it’s mostly independents. Any bit of new exposure can do great things for the local economy, according to the City’s Manager of Economic Development, Melissa Barcellos.

“A lot of the people that work in that industry come for temporary periods of time so they are filling our hotels and restaurants,” she explained.
