Colina excited for big final year of Junior hockey

Two weeks ago the Cougars finalized their 20-year-old situation for the 2020-2021 season and will feature North Delta product Ilijah Colina, who is hoping his final year in the Western Hockey League is his best one yet.

When in the line-up for the Cats last year, Colina was a difference-maker for the squad.

Overall, despite missing some games due to injuries, this past year was a strong one for the forward.

“Based on how the year before went with me and leaving in January, it was a good progression for myself,” shared Colina.

“Also for my team. Our goal from the start was to get better with every game or practice and that’s what I thought we did. We were playing our best when the season was postponed.”

It was a building year for a young Cougars squad, and for a veteran like Colina, it was a chance for him to be a leader in the locker room and pass his knowledge on to the younger players.

“The advice I usually give is really there is nothing to be nervous about or worried about. It’s just the game of hockey. Really the only thing is you’re only playing with older guys.”

Preparation for next season is well underway for the Cats veteran forward and when it comes to goals in his final year of Junior Hockey, the 20-year-old is keeping it simple.

“Just to make the playoffs. That is really the only goal. I just want to win.”
