PRINCE RUPERT– A high school graduate is gaining quite a bit of attention after creating an app that landed in the top charts just two days after it was listed in the education category.

Brendan Eshom launched Sm’algyax Word, a free Indigenous language app over the weekend, and before he knew it it was on the Apple App Top Charts.

The free app expands on the website he created over the past year when his Grade 12 timetable could not accommodate a Sm’algyax course.

Eshom is headed to UBC in the fall where he says he plans on maintaining the website while he studies. Eshom adds that he is humbled that so many people are interested in learning more about the language of the Tsimshian People.
