PRINCE GEORGE—The Prince George Airport Authority is beginning to see a slow increase in passenger numbers.

With inter-provincial travel approved, the Prince George Airport Authority says the month of June saw a slight increase in traffic compared to earlier months this year. June traffic numbers were down 91 per cent compared to the same time last year. For the months of April and May traffic numbers were down by 96 per cent.

“I believe this is the very beginning of our recovery.”—Gordon Duke, President and CEO of the Prince George Airport Authority

“This month we welcomed back Central Mountain Air, so we are seeing more flights come and go. We expect to see additional flights in the coming months from our airline partners,” added Duke.

In August, WestJet will be operating three flights a day Monday through Friday, two on Saturdays and one on Sunday to Vancouver. Air Canada will fly to YVR two times a day, seven days a week, while Central Mountain Air operates three days a week to Kamloops, Kelowna, Terrace/Kitimat and Fort St. John.

To help decrease the potential spread of COVID-19 the Airport Authority is requiring masks to be worn at all times in the terminal and on board flights. Terminal Access is only permitted to employees and passengers with a valid ticket, unless a traveller requires assistance. Short term parking fees have been eliminated as “Meeters and Greeters” must remain outside the airport. Other safety measures such as physical distancing floor decals, additional hand sanitizing stations, and increased cleaning of high touch areas have also been implemented.
