Some sheets of ice will be going into rinks in the City of Prince George in the not so distant future, which will let hockey players, figure skaters, and speed skaters begin training for next season.

However, for Prince George speed skater Eric Orlowski, he has continued his training in Calgary as he takes to the ice at the Olympic Oval.

“It’s been difficult. Lots of training on my own, which has been hard. But they actually just opened the oval so we can skate. As long as we stay 3 metres apart,” shared Orlowski.

This past season was a very successful one for the Prince George product, who saw tremendous growth throughout the year.

“This past season was really amazing,” stated Orlowski to CKPG.

“I finished 6th overall for Juniors in Canada. Winning a medal in the 5K, I came 3rd in the Juniors.”

Just like other winter sports, there is uncertainty for this upcoming season and whether there will be competitions has yet to be determined.

“I haven’t heard much about the competitions. I’m not really sure there will be many,” added Orlowski.

Normally they would be training for Canada Cup competitions.

Despite not knowing if there will be any meets or competitions, Orlowski doesn’t mind training as the time allows him to continue to improve and reach his goals.
