While many sports in Prince George haven’t been able to take place and hold competitive games and competitions, golf is the one sport that bodes well when it comes to social distancing.

Over the weekend the Prince George Golf and Curling Club held one of their premier events.

Some of the best golfers in the City came out to compete in the two-day event and with the uncertainty of everything this year with Covid-19, the club was happy they were able to continue the event this year.

“Golf is one of the few sports which lends itself to safety around the covid issue,” stated PG Golf and Curling Club GM Don McDermid.

“A lot of the golfers look forward to the opportunity. We had to change the event significantly to keep the numbers manageable, but it still gives everyone the chance to compete at a high level.”

This year’s tournament winner was Blair Scott, who finished the two-day tournament at two under par.

“The first day I played really well,” shared Scott to CKPG.

“I eagled #15. I made two from the fairway which was big time for me. I made that big one and that was a confidence booster for me.”

The win felt more special for Scott as he finished 2nd in the 2019 tournament.

When it comes to future tournaments at the course this year, there are a few tentatively booked.

This includes the Women’s Simon Fraser Golf tournament in two weeks.
