PRINCE GEORGE–Over the weekend more than 200 bikes were registered with 529 Garage during the Big Bike Registry.

Volunteers from the Prince George Nechako Rotary Club and the Prince George RCMP came together to try and encourage cyclists to register their bikes with 529 Garage, a bike registry and recovery system with the goal of deterring bike theft.

“We are finding that a good portion of the bikes that are stolen…the serial numbers were never recorded.”–Cpl. Craig Douglass, spokesperson, Prince George RCMP

The goal at this year’s event was to register 500 bikes, however, according to Cpl. Douglass, they did not meet that goal. 529 Garage can be accessed via the 529 Garage app or online.

The bike registry allows bike owners to create online profiles that include photos of their bike, bike serial numbers, and photos of them with their bike. If a bike that is registered with the online service is stolen, the owner can use the app or head online to notify police of the theft.
