Prince George RCMP conduct weekend road blitz

PRINCE GEORGE —It was a busy weekend for Prince George RCMP and RCMP volunteers conducting speed watch and speed enforcement around the city.

Cpl. Craig Douglass says there were two incidents of note. In the first, he says a driver was pulled over for driving 74 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone. The vehicle, a Ford Mustang, was also found to have have unvalid insurance and was consequently towed.

In a second incident, Douglass says a driver failed to produce their driver’s licence after being stopped travelling 75 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone. In both cases, substantial fines were handed out.

He says eight drivers were also find $368 dollars each for being caught using an electronic device while driving.

“Approximately 1,869 vehicles were observed by RCMP volunteers with over 112 violations recorded between speeding and distracted driving,” says Mike Burt, volunteer program coordinator with the Prince George RCMP.

“Some were issued violation tickets, while others will receive a warning letter in the mail.”

Police say more speed and distracted driving enforcement will take place throughout the month of September.
