New face first to launch campaign trail in Prince George
PRINCE GEORGE — BC’s youngest political party is also one of the first to begin their election campaign. The BC Ecosocialist Party launched their campaign this afternoon in Prince George.
Stuart Parker, the interim leader and candidate for Prince George-Valemount, says the party is made up of people who wanted to see the best of NDP-Green coalition but were unhappy with the last couple of years. In launching their campaign, Parker says the BC Ecosocialists land far left on the political spectrum. Focusing on things like a Green New Deal for BC, defunding police, and decolonization. On the point of resources, long- and short-term jobs was a focus; while one pillar regards forestry, a key focus Parker said will intrigue northern British Columbians.
“We need a forestry policy that is going to stop this endless decline in forest jobs. There are fewer mill jobs and fewer logging jobs every year and if we don’t have better forestry policies, that tailspins going to continue and people won’t be able to afford to live here,” he explained.
Parker says there will be a Prince George-Mackenzie candidate and others for all northern BC ridings announced in the coming days.
