Why are you running for office?

I’m running because Prince George-Valemount needs a voice in government, not in opposition. I was tired of watching the concerns of Northern BC being swept under the rug, and I knew it was time to make a difference.  There is so much work to be done in the region, and we need a dedicated MLA that has the power and capacity to bring our issues to Victoria. I know I am that person. I want to help you and your family with compassion, empathy, and kindness.

How does your party plan to address the issue of climate change?

We presented the Clean BC plan, which was developed in consultation with Dr. Weaver, the former BC Greens leader. Clean BC is the most aggressive climate change strategy in North America. We will continue to implement the plan and commit to becoming carbon neutral by 2040. We will invest in green technology, and diversify our industries to make sure we are making the best possible choices for generations to come.

How would you address the challenges facing some Aboriginal communities across our region?

We are proud to have been the government that made BC the first jurisdiction in Canada to adopt UNDRIP, which was passed with unanimous support from all parties. We strongly believe that government-to-government consultation is essential when we work with First Nations. We will work tirelessly to ensure that UNDRIP is fully implemented in all government ministries and services, and we will seek to constantly improve our reconciliation efforts.

What’s your stance on the development of pipelines?

We support a balanced approach that protects both our biodiversity and our economy. Moving forward, we support resource development projects, like pipelines, once we have negotiated government-to-government with First Nations and we can ensure that there is minimal environmental risk.

How would your party address the recent spike in violent crime in Prince George?

Firstly, we are reviewing the Police Actto ensure that our services are being used effectively and with right approaches. Secondly, we are investing in social supports to assist in crime by taking people of the streets. We are also cracking down on organized crime, money laundering, and gang activity.

Has the provincial government done a good job handling the COVID-19 crisis? If not, how would you or your party handle in differently?

The BCNDP have done an excellent job at managing the COVID-19 pandemic. By following the recommendations of our experts, we have balanced the need to keep people safe, and keep our economy going. Under the BCNDP’s leadership, BC is in good hands.

What would you do to help seniors?

There are too many things than what I have space for! We are starting by hiring 7000 new front-line positions in long-term care homes. When the BC NDP took power, nine out of ten care homes were understaffed. We are tightening our provincial regulations on private care facilities to ensure our seniors are receiving the best care, and we are investing in rural housing and support systems for seniors in smaller communities.

How would you address the opioid crisis?

The Liberals left us with an ineffective and incomplete services. We created a standalone ministry for mental health and addictions, and we will continue to build upon this work to improve social services, advocacy and support. We will take a science based approach and follow the recommendations of Dr. Bonnie Henry by pushing the federal government for decriminalization.

Where in the riding do you live? Why? What are your favourite places to spend time in?

I live in town. The best part about being close to the centre of the town is being close to the wonderful stores, services, and amenities. My favourite places to spend time in are the Ancient Forest, or stopping by one of our wonderful downtown businesses for a bit of shopping!

Name the last Netflix show you binge-watched.

I just finished House of Cards and now I’m working on The Chefs Table.
