Disc golf reaches greater heights

PRINCE GEORGE – It may not be ranked in the top 20 most popular sports in the world but in some sports circles, it’s known to be challenging, relaxing, and quicker to play than golf.

Disc Golf’s popularity is slowly growing in our city, as it becomes an alternative sport to play during the pandemic.

Some local disc golf players are getting in some last arm swings before the snow becomes too deep.

Almost weekly players can be seen playing disc golf at Rainbow Park. In disc golf, the clubs and balls are replaced by flying plastic discs, similar to a Frisbees, and holes are replaced by baskets.

John Bowes helped launch the first disc golf course in the city 14 years ago at Rainbow Park.

As the popularity of the sport grows in the community, an 18 hole course is in the development stages at the Hart Ski Hill.

There are several hundred disc golf courses in Canada. The local courses are open and available to anyone who would like to play.

Disc golf isn’t truly like the game that is played with a club and ball, but according to some of those who have hucked a disc say it can deliver some of the same challenges and enjoyment.
