Prince George awaits evacuees
PRINCE GEORGE – Prince George remains prepared to welcome wildfire evacuees from British Columbia’s Interior, but despite ongoing evacuation orders connected to the Pear Lake wildfire near 70 Mile House, officials say no displaced residents have arrived at the city’s reception centre so far.
The City of Prince George activated its Emergency Support Services reception centre Sunday after being advised to prepare for residents affected by evacuation orders issued by the Thompson-Nicola Regional District. Initially, officials were told approximately 214 address points could be impacted by the evacuation.
Many of those residents were first directed toward Williams Lake, but emergency officials anticipated some evacuees could eventually make their way north.
