223 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C., 6 in Northern Health

VICTORIA–Six new cases of COVID-19 in the Northern Health Region were reported this afternoon (Friday, Oct.23).

The new number brings the north to a total of 371 since the start of the pandemic. Provincially, there are 223 new cases totalling 12,554.

Cases by Health Region:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 4,319
  • Fraser Health: 6,864
  • Vancouver Island Health: 250
  • Interior Health: 662
  • Northern Health: 371
  • People who reside outside of Canada: 88

There have been no new deaths, remaining at a total of 256. There are 2,009 active cases of the virus in the province. 75 people are in hospital and of those 24 are in ICU.

4,637 people are under active public health monitoring for coming into contact with a confirmed case of the virus. There are two new health care facility outbreaks, while four have been declared over. In total there are 18 active outbreaks in health care.

Two new community outbreaks have been reported at Coast Spas Manufacturing and Pace Processing.

“This is our opportunity and the time to take a step back from our social interactions and keep our groups small this weekend. In doing this, we show our appreciation and support for the important work of contact tracers,” reads the statement.

“It is also the time to show kindness to those around us. None of us know the stories and experiences of those around us, so let’s make this weekend one of compassion and care for everyone.”
